Happy Earth Day- Celebrate with a Giveaway

Although it's almost over now, I did want to do an eco friendly post in honor of the day.  I have been noticing a lot lately while out shopping that there are so much more things out there either made of recycled material or just made in a more eco friendly way.  So I thought I'd share some with you.  You'd be surprised at what is available these days.

  • Toothbrush and razors made from recycled yogurt cups.
  • Umbrella made from recycled bottles for the canopy and recycled aluminum for the handle.
  • And this amazes me 'cause it seems so obvious, but why not sooner- aluminum foil made from, hmm, recycled foil.
  • Recycled coffee tumbler.
  • Eco friendly iPhone case made from recycled bottles.
  • Eco friendly activewear.
  • Eco friendly, biodegradable, and recyclable disposable dinnerware.
  • Recycled binders and other office products.
  • And I think I might love this one the most 'cause of all of the little tubes of makeup around- eco friendly cosmetics.  The lipstick tubes are made from corn.  The boxes the lipsticks come in, plant them, they grow flowers.  Cargo brand.  Way cool.
  • Even your dog can be earth friendly with biodegradable, compostable poopie bags.
  • Eco friendly toy companies even exist.

Speaking of toys, I have one to give away.  This eco friendly indoor gardening kit is made from recycled milk jugs.  Planting with you children is a great way to talk about conservation, natural resources, plant growth, earth friendly practices, bugs, sun, water.  My girls love to plant and really love to see the flowers grow.  This will go to the a random commenter.  Tell me you'd like it and also tell us what eco friendly product you've seen out there.  I'll choose the winner on Sunday.  Or Monday.  ;-)

OH...we would LOVE a gardening kit!
I am (although trying to use up my stash before buying more) LOVING all the recycled scrapbook paper that is finally out.
I like some of the stuff that Scrapbook Pantry has out, and also Crafting a Green World's stuff. And Diecuts with a View just released a whole Green Stacks line. It is all fun, and the amount of paper I use for crafting, it makes me feel a little better to know it was recycled (from all the other paper and scraps I throw in the recycle bin!).

Ok, I know I'm going to sound like a dork but when you wrote plastic milk jugs that's what I thought they were going to be. I have memories of my Mom starting plants in plastic milk jugs by cutting the tops off of them. I have to admit the indoor gardening kit is way more high tech than my Mom's method. However, she has recently infected W.W. with the gardening bug and now he wants to plant things everywhere so this would be very fun to win. As for eco friently product I've been investigating baby bottles actually. I want something free of Bisphenol-A* and Phthalates. New Born Mama has some cool stuff. :)

Those are great and I'm going to take a look at the make-up I have been looking and looking for some good quality natural make-up...it's hard to find.

Mine eco-tip to share are these new shoes by zoe&zac....a friend of mine told me about them and I can't believe how affordable they are. They use organic cotton, recycled rubber and really cool natural products to make their shoes! I can't believe they are going to be sold at Payless...other shoe companies need to get on board...it's cute stuff too!

Personally, I think that any green product is only useful if you 'needed' it in the first place. And if you do need something, choose the greener option, and place it into your newly made reusable shopping bag!!

Love all the things you mentioned. I am a fan of cleaning and gardening without chemicals. White vinegar is amazing for both and you'd be amazed by the pesticides made without chemicals by using things like garlic and habaneros!

Ah! I was going to say Sun Chips - that part didn't show up on my reader. You been me to the punch. Love mesome Cheddar Sun Chips.

But I like the Green Works cleaning products from Clorox. Because I trust the brand Clorox to keep my family safe AND deliver a clean house, I feel good about it. I might like it better if they kept the cleaners clear rather than making them literally *green* - but it's a great step.

I also love gardening with my boys. Since Iowa weather is sooo unpredictable and - let's face it - lousy most of the year, indoor container gardening is the only option for 8 of 12 months a year here.

I enjoy your blog. :)

Melody!

Yay! You are going to make 3 little boys very, very happy. Thank you!
I'll shoot you an email.

I appreciate this and I know my boybarians will, too. Much gratitude!

Great list of products, Melody! Did you know you can buy bamboo fabric (I know fabric.com has it)? From what I've seen it's only knits, though. Still a great eco idea. :)
