Sweetness

I think we all as parents wish that our children wouldn't grow up so fast.  We have to buy shoes way too often because what used to be tiny feet are now stinky big feet.  We go through challenges and battles about what is appropriate at this age regarding movies, music, tv shows.  We have discussions about setting limits and we try to convince our 4 going on 13 year old about why we make the decisions we make.  I just want the girls to stay young, sweet, and naive.  NAIVE.

Lately Natalya is just been growing way beyond her years.  I am really not surpised because it's in her being.  She is incredibly bright and very aware, and, well, I am just dumbfounded sometimes listening to her talk.  Today she came home and started her homework as usual.  As I get into the coming home chaos, she turns to me and says, "Momma, some kids at school say that 'ass' is a bad word."  Off course, I tilt my head and look at her.  Then I say, "Well, what do you think it means?"  And she says, "Well, it's a part of 'class' and 'glass'."  As my heart swells, I go to her and hug her and kiss her forhead and say, "I am so glad that it took you this long to have to hear this."  I really would have wanted it to be longer but considering that other kids already knew, I'd say she did pretty well.  I go on to tell her the various meanings and say that it's not appropriate in most situations.  She is good with that.

It keeps running through my head and I wait for the next one to come up.  I know, she would have learned it at some point but I sorta feel like those kids have taken away a part of her innocence.  I can not protect her 100% of the time but I hope she always thinks of me during times like these.  My baby, she's just growing up.

OK, in other sweetness fronts... I got to see my sweet friend Kristin today.  She is a light and hugs with all her heart.  I felt it today.  Kristin is having her third baby and is one rockin' momma.

Kristin and her hub make beautiful children.  Can't wait to meet number 3.

I am still waiting for Em to come home from school with some sort of word....you handled it (and N. handled it!) beautifully.

I really like the way you focused on the bump. Cool. And did you add the red to the wall in the second picture or was that an amazing coincidence? I think the red on the wall really adds to the picture.

Kristin's pics are gorgeous.

And, on the innocence front...Priya told Deven in the back seat of the car last week that "Sex equals love." Animesh was the parent who got to experience that one. He freaked out and admitted he didn't react appropriately. The thing is...Priya doesn't even know what sex is (I don't think!!!). She was just repeating what a little boy in her class was saying at the lunch table.

The influences our children are exposed to are out of our control. But, we've (hopefully) established the firm foundation that will keep them unshakable when things REALLY get messy.

Happy Birthday to YOU!

Love the background with the barn, it makes her red shirt POP.

Your photos are amazing! And won't it be great to say we knew her when, when Jen is all hot and famous?

Hope your day is a great one!

Wow, Kristin is so beautiful! Great photos. Wish you had been around when I was pregnant. We've seen what my mother came up with in the way of photos hahahahahahahah.

As for the language thing. I remember hitting my thumb with a hammer when the BA was around N's age and swearing ferociously. She ran from the other end of the house to see what was wrong and asked what had happened.
"I hit my thumb and I said a bad word!" I grimaced through teary eyes.
"Did you say bloody?" asked my 5 year old.
"No"
"Did you say sh*t?"
"NO"
"Did you say bugger?'
"NO NO NO!!!!"
The only consolation I did have was that she didn't come up with the word I DID actually say! :-D
That changed a few years later when we came to Australia. In the first week she was at her new school she came home asking what the 'f' word meant.
*sigh*
I feel your pain.
Now, she laughs at me when I wince at swear words.
"Come on, Mum," she says," I live with Himself, I've heard it all!"
Sadly, this is true although, under my disapproving stare he is earnestly trying to reform his colourful Aussie language. At least in front of the children!

It is sad that they come home with bad language from other kids. Even at daycare we have to deal with potty mouthed kids. Unfortunately they hear a bit at home, too. Growing up around cowboys is akin to growing up around sailors, I would imagine. I have to learn to temper my language more in front of the kids, and beleive me I try!

Love those shots - Great job! I almost wish I were pregnant again to get some lovely pregnant belly shots. Almost. ;)

that barn is such a fabulous background, especially with the red shirt -- great job!

You handled that situation so well. She is so innocent and it just shows from her reaction to your question. Love that last shot by the way!
