Life's Little Adventures
So the other day I had this bright idea to stop by this little church that I love and finally take a picture of it. It's down the street from our little local bakery so I see it all the time (yes, that means I'm at the bakery all the time.) It was sort of hazy and still early. I was thinking about how the sun was burning through and how it will eventually be a lovely day. So I park my car at the curb, not nicely because I was just going to snap a few shots and go (friends were meeting me soon.) I turn the car off and think, "I don't want to hold my keys so I'll leave them here on the seat. No, maybe better to drop them on the floor. Safer there." Do you see where this is going? I drop the keys, get out of the car, and walk for about 5 seconds and hear a beep from the car. Insert sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach here. My car doors locked. It all worked out in the end after about 45 minutes and a lock smith who was probably as old as the little town we live in. I was hoping that I was not going to have to resuscitate him and open the car by myself. Anyway, our On Star is now activated, all is good. It's a new car and now I have to figure out why it happened. And now the shots that started the whole thing.
That is what I wanted. This is My Best Shot for today. And this is what I got while I was waiting for the lock smith...

Oh, I know that sinking feeling !! Glad it all worked out ok !
And to answer your question about the doctor doing a home visit. It was a weekend and the doctors offices aren't open so I called the "after hours" number. I'd never had to do it before. They said that they'd send a doctor out TO THE HOUSE !! Took three hours but hey, I'm not complaining ! They also said that since our daughter is under 16 and our regular doctor is a "subscriber" to their service, there would be no charge to us ! HOW COOL IS THAT ! Australia has a great medical system. The government ( well, I guess it's really us paying through our taxes ! ) does a lot to help with medical costs. The system is totally different to the States. Took a bit of getting used to when I first moved here 10 years ago !!
Gorgeous shots! I'm glad it all worked out -- I am always paranoid about locking my keys in my car. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm knocking on wood just in case!
Oh...those are so beautiful. I would love to take pictures of this church and make note cards out of them...looks like I'll be at the bakery tomorrow...sigh.
And, I've utilized ONSTAR more times than I care to admit. I also inadvertently hit the "call" button at least once a week...and can't turn it off. I have a personal relationship with them now...hope they don't think I'm crying wolf the next time I really do need some help.
oooh, i love the puddle reflection. totally worth locking the keys in the car.. :)
Love them all! I think the second is my favorite, though.
I don't trust my car, so I make sure to take my keys with. It's like it has a mind of it's own and I'm not sure what it's thinking LOL! I need to activate my on star, too.
Wow. I love all of them - especially the trees.
Glad everything turned out OK. :)
Oh that tree is amazing! Great shots!
Melody,
We've met I think once before at Miss "Honorary Indian's" house, and know Kyle Lindsey. I've been keeping up w/your blog through your link & Jennifer's and just always enjoy your pictures and how active you are w/your kids! We have a lot out where you are now, and are hoping to one day build too! Haley, my brother's girlfriend, wrote you last week and is a HUGE fan of your photographs! I know we said we both felt like such BLOGGER stalkers, writing you, but just wanted to say hi and thanks for sharing your blog! Hope you'll have a chance to check out mine sometime as well! Can't wait to see your beautiful home!
ooh, love that reflection -- so stark! glad you were able to make good use of your time :)...
That is a sweet looking church! And the shots of the puddle reflection and the sky are breathtaking! I'm sorry you had to call a locksmith, but I'm glad you had a chance to take those photos.
These are lovely, worth the effort, in my opinion. :)
Well, hey, at least you had your camera to keep you occupied, right? I remember once my mom locked the car keys in the trunk. My dad drove 45 minutes to where we were and opened it for us. He drove away, headed back home, just as she closed the trunk--with the keys STILL in it. This was before cell phones, so we had to wait for him to get all the way home and call him to ask him to come back.
So see? It could have been way worse!
Love the shots Mel! I like the puddle reflection..it really caught my eye. Glad to know there is one downside of having a new car. Can't wait to get mine!
wow great shots. That is a cute little church. Love the reflection shot and the tree.
Beautiful Melody!!!
I'm just searching for new blogs and came across yours! The photos on this post have convinced me to come back again soon! Great stuff!
Love your story... and serendipity is your friend, girl. Best Shots!
oy! great story to go with the great shots;-)
yeah - it may have been a pain, but the shots are so, so beautiful. the puddle one especially!
Hey you got some cool shots out of it! That is so something I would do! :)
WOW, that last one is so cool. Those clouds are awesome. Thanks for sharing your story and your pics!
I love the church, but I really love the second picture of the reflection.
I can't tell you how many time I have locked the keys in my car in the past. I could have invested in Triple A stock! Things are better now. I'm in a support group for it. Just kidding. Not really.
No. Not really.
(I'm dieting - makes me punchy.)
oh my word... you sure turned a stinker of a time into a real gem!
those are just incredible shots! i've said it before... i'll say it again... girl you have a gift! :)
p.s. Onstar in the best dad gum thing... genius!
I think my favorite is the reflection, gorgeous! And a great story to go with it!
What a great picture...
