"If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." ~Vincent Van Gogh
This weeks lesson per Vienne's request: Vincent Van Gogh
Van Gogh is pretty fascinating and depressing at the same time. You cover what you think your kiddos can handle. Since we just focused on Van Gogh we looked at various works done by Van Gogh (using Google images) and discussed: What stands out when you look at Van Gogh's art? What did he use to make his art? Do you like what you see? What do you think he was thinking while painting Starry Night?
This week we painted with acrylics on paper (we were supposed to use canvas but apparently they were hiding and I couldn't find them). Acrylics are easy for kids to use because they are water based and clean up easily. Acrylics can also be mixed easily so we talked about the advantages to being able to mix our paints. Yellow and blue makes green!
Our prompt this week- emotion. Van Gogh was a very emotional painter and used bold lines and bold colors to represent emotion. What are you feeling today? And since Van Gogh was a post impressionist, we painted with bold colors and painted a landscape.
Supplies- brushes, paper, acrylic paints, cups of water, paper towels.
Have fun! In our next lesson we should be exploring Dia de los Muertos.

Getting kids to paint in the style of Vincent VG is always fun. It's hard to get them to loosen up and use the big bold strokes though. Great lesson. Enjoying this!
