Team Up Thursday
Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 05:00AM
This week for Team Up Thursday, Megan and I chose the theme "Close Up". Megan on top and me on the bottom. I've really been practicing my close up photography (not even macro, just getting a bit closer) because I just can't seem to get it. I've decided that I just don't have a steady enough hand. Any one have any tricks?

I am no help for you but I think you did a wonderful job! So, have you been playing with that camera? I saw a whole flicker pool with homemade tubes that they took pictures through old cameras. That would be a fun week for you - or maybe not :) I love your combo this week!
I always use a tripod. It can make shoots take a little longer, but the end results are always better. Plus I feel like it makes me focus more on composing my shots.
I love that old camera. Where did you get it? I wouldn't know what to do with one, but I want one! Great job again! You and Megan never fail to inspire!
Great pair even if its opposite ideas. I love old cameras and hearing the stories behind them. My dad has some old ones I love looking at when I visit. I find I have the same issue, on keeping my hand still. Lot of times I end up cropping to get real close. I dont have a macro lens. Maybe one day. I learned something from Megan picture, we dont see those here in TX.
OMGosh your post on my blog was absolutely hilarious and I never even thought about that :) You made me laugh out loud for real this morning - thanks! Have a great weekend!
These look great and I love the close up you took of the old one. So vintage and cool! It looks like you have a steady hand to me but I'm always playing around with things so don't have a tip yet.
I posted ours this a.m.!
i love yours. the only tip i have is to take two shots in quick succession. often if you are a bit jiggly on the first, the second is more steady. or a tripod :). there's always that.
I am by no means an expert, but I find myself resting the camera on something like a table or resting my elbows on something to steady my shot. If I don't my shots are always shaky. I think you nailed this close up though. It makes me want to see the rest of the camera and know the story behind it.
Wow...for not "being very good at it" you hit it out of the park! That one is a great shot, and I really like the theme, too.
We did Grids, this week.
I don't know if anyone has suggested a tripod yet, but they work wonders when you just can't get the camera steady enough. I have a similar problem as I have to get real close to something for a macro shot. There are these cute little bendy leg tripods out there that work well. My Dad got me one. The legs have the ability to wrap around other objects so you can get some weird and creative angles too. :)
I like both shots. It's a fun close up combo. :)
Wow, love the close-up of the old Kodak camera; very vintage. I don't know if you did anything with your processing, but it looks perfect...I feel the age of the camera. Beautiful shot!
Interesting combination this week. I love it.
Huh. I was the first one over here last night and about to comment when I was called away for something; when I got back there were already two comments, then I penned mine but fell asleep over it as I was typing, got woken up to go to bed by Himself and must have forgotten to press publish! Huh. Wonder what I wrote.....?
I think it was something to do with the semi circle motif in both photos. There's a twig near the centre of Megan's photo that curves under and echoes the edge of the lens on your shot. It gives the two photos a sense of unity even as one is organic and the other mechanical.
My camera is always letting me down on close-ups I find. Every time I try something Himself will sagely shake his head and say 'need a better camera.......and a tripod'.....and that's from a professional. If you took that shot without a tripod I'd say you have the close-up thing pretty well nailed!
JoLyn and I did sand this week.
Hmmmm. Why didn't that link work?
sand
I think you did just fine! I like the subject you chose, and the way you got everything in there that we needed to see to tell us what we were looking at without revealing the entire image. Oh, and self timer. No touching a balanced camera = steady. :)
I love your old camera. I often look on Ebay and think about buying one, but I really have no where to properly display it. It would probably just sit in a closet and collect dust or be part of the rest of the clutter in my house....but they are so intriguing to me. I always wonder what kinds of beautiful shots it has taken in its life. Wonderful close up of something that has so many questions to it....especially just giving us a peek! :0)
I have a really hard time with closeup shots, too. I don't know if the problem is me or the camera/lens! That old camera is awesome. Makes me want to know the story behind it. Do you know its history?
Well it looks good to me! It was much easier for me to do close ups with a lighter camera. I think I need to start pumping some weights to build up some strenght. So that's my tip. ;)
