The Way Summer Should Be

You know, I'm glad to say that we've had a very nice Summer break.  Although there might have been a few days when I thought I would go nuts by the end of the day because the girls were just having one of those days, I honestly can look back say that we've spent our days the way we should have.  Some days we stayed in our jammies all day, ate pancakes for dinner, skipped our naps and baked cookies, and played in the rain.  Some days we pulled each other on the blanket around the house, played hide and seek for hours (Vienne's current FAVORITE game), or went exploring in the backyard looking for animal tracks.  Things that make up Summer vacation.  On Friday evening, the girls wanted to swim after dinner, at about 6:00.  So we got our suits on and jumped in.  The water was a wonderful 86 degrees!  I know that may seem warm to some, but it is perfect for me.  For the first time, they swam til it got dark, and til we had to put the lights on in the pool, and until the moon shined from behind the clouds.  Summer.  When we came in to dry off, Vienne said, "That was the best day I ever had."

This is when I wish I had stayed in.  My heart races every time.

The girls would do this forever if Daddy's arms would hold up.

Hopefully you'll take some time and relish the last days of Summer break, enjoy the sunsetting, the moon coming up.  More Best Shots on this last Monday before we go back to school next Monday.

that was my favorite thing to do at my grandparents' as a kid: swim in the evening with the pool lights on --nothing better!

It really sounds like this summer captured all the magic of summer! So many great memories you've given your girls. Swimming till dark - FUN! I love that first picture, and the closeup of Natalya.

Those pictures are wonderful! I love the vibrant and dark color tones in them and the action shots of being thrown up in the pool. What fun! Looks like a wonderful way to remember the summer. :)

I love swimming up to and after dark. I can't believe summer is over and we have hardly gone swimming.

Gorgeous shots and sentiments to match. Being a teacher and married to one as well, we're certainly feeling the end-of-summer as well. Thankfully, I'll have a bit longer to stay home with my new baby girl and my little guy! Enjoy these final days! :)

The close up is my favorite. The goggles on her head and the slight ripple in the water is perfect. Sounds like so much fun. Those are the memories they will keep with them forever.

What a perfect summer day!!! Our summer ended two weeks ago at the very beginning of August. (I'm a teacher--went back to work on July 31, which should be against the law!!!) I'm trying to grasp the last few summer evenings with M so she has tons of memories this year.

I so love your style and the way you capture your girls. They have a treasure in the pictures you've got of them growing up.

The throwing of any kid in water makes me nervous too! I guess that's a mom/woman thing!

Love the blurry one...great shots of Vienne's best day! :)

It sounds like you have had the perfect summer break! Oh, I remember a few evenings at friends' pools in the summertime swimming at night. Those were the best days, so I can totally relate to Vienne. Great shots of this fun time, Melody.

I can remember moonlight swim sessions at our town pool growing up, and I still think it sounds so special and slightly against the rules! I love it! I feel the same way--we've had a long, wonderful summer, and though I'm never ready to see it end, I know we have packed every possible minute of every day full of summer fun.

I can't wait until next year when we can actually use our pool a lot more...I haven't been in our pool except once this summer because I always have the baby to watch and take care of!

Great pictures...I LOVE that out of focus one!
