Sleeping Beauty
Monday, May 5, 2008 at 07:37AM I'm a stickler for routines with the girls. Have always been. I always say that I can tell what time it is by watching the girls' behavior. Hungry? Must be about 11:00. Sleepy? Must be about 12:30. Our nighttime routine starts at 7:00. "Brush, books, bed" we call it. I always aim to be out of both rooms by 7:45. Lately, Vienne has be having a hard time falling asleep and will still be up at 9:00. That's insane to me. I will check on her and I can catch her sitting up playing, turned around in bed talking, or just plain calling me every five minutes saying, "My body can't sleep." So, I thought it might be time to ditch the afternoon nap. Gasp. I have always relished the afternoon nap. But, we did it. Vienne plays well with me and without me so it hasn't been bad. But the first day was tiring for her. At 2:00 we go pick up Sister. We got home at about 3:00 and Vienne went to sit on the couch. I assumed that meant she was ready for some tv so I didn't rush over. I did what I had to do and made my way over to the couch not long after. She was passed out.

Neither of the girls have ever done this before. They have always slept in their beds. It's been a long time since I've gotten a sleeping picture. Even with this 30 minute nap, she fell asleep at 7:45 that night. Just another one of those moments at makes me think that girls are growing up too fast.
(It's about 8:00 AM as I finish this. V is still sleeping. Usually I would have waken her up long ago cuz I would have wanted her to be sleepy for nap. Crazy, I know.)
It's Best Shot Monday. Go, see.

It is the SAME way around here...the girls are typically like clockwork. But last night Em was up because she "didn't WANT to sleep" until 9. And A. has been having a few night issues...but I haven't been able to get any sleeping photos in a very long time either!
That one is so precious - the lighting is gorgeous, her amazing eyelashes(!) and the thumb kinda half-way in, half-way out it is all so sweet!
What an adorable picture! I am right there with you with the routines -- Caden changes his up from time to time, but whatever routine we have going, I like to stick with it!
I think routines keep you sane--plus the kids do much better when you follow one! I used to think people were crazy who had to run home to get their kids to bed - but, now I am one of those people!
Very sweet shot, and my how time does fly. We are about to "ween" our almost 4 year old off of her nap, Lord help me.
I use that quiet time for my work...
Your pictures are always so vibrant, what is your secret?
I'm the same way... so when they do fall asleep in unusual places, I too, run for the camera!
i love accidental nap pictures! they always look so peaceful. nap transition is always a challenge, though, both for the kid & the mom :)!
What a sweet photo! She looks so peaceful. Great shot!
awwwww...a thumbsuker! I love thumbsuckers, it helps them hold onto their baby-ness even longer. I have a thumbsucker too.
What a lovely shot! She's just as cute as can be (I love those sleeping shots too!) :)
Thanks for stopping by my place for BSM! :)
She sure is growing up. And kudos to you for being brave enough to give up the afternoon nap...I don't know what I would do without it. I'm hoping I don't have to find out for a very long time!
What a great sleeping picture - she is beautiful!
seriously ill die when this happens!!! I cant live without my child taking a nap!!! BTW linked to you from mommas tow head boyz
What a sweet photo!
I am a stickler for bedtime, but the rest of the sleep schedule is determined totally by the boys. They each gave up naps on their own between the ages of 2 and 3, but if especially tired they'll take little power naps on their own time. But, bedtime is 8. No arguing. Only exceptions are when we're out of town (my parents' house) or at a party on a weekend night.
look at that precious angel! thank GOD for cameras!
We have the SAME routine...and I am a MUCH better routine keeper than Daddy! I always tell him when he's gone, it goes much faster because I run a tight ship!
Adorable shots as usual!!
Did she enjoy the Bike Rodeo??
How darling! I never get enough shots of Harrison sleeping.
ooh so cute. my kids never do this either...i always think i'm the only one with the routines, it's nice to hear someone else does the same thing!
Precious!! I just took a photo just like this of my eight year old. He still takes the occasional nap... just like his mom!! :) ~Jill
That is so sweet, caught one of those kinds of pics on Mindless Junque. How very sweet and quiet time is always enjoyed!
Awww, that is so sweet! That mid-afternoon nap is really hard to get rid of isn't it? It is hit or miss in our house. Sometimes she will take them and sometimes it is just a battle to get her to nap so we give in. We have to deal with the 9pm at night thing with her, too, so I think the nap needs to go. Of course we can't control it at daycare where they make all of them nap, regardless.
What a glorious shot. How can you be around those beautiful girls all the time without spending most of your day just going AWWWWWWWW?
this makes me weepy.
it's just gorgeous.
Changing routines has to be so hard. I'm a stickler for routines too. She looks so peaceful!
OH the sleepy shots make me smile inside. We too are wresting with nap, and I have still insisted on quiet time--what will I do when there is no nap at all? Eeek!
